The last time they released an EP was in 2020 under the title “We Get, The Same”. After that, they went on to release a full studio album under the title “The High Tide Club”. Starting the year off strong they released an EP on April 18th that consists of six new tracks.
Diving In
The first track ‘Vancouver ‘23’ instantly sinks you in. One thing about The Poles is that they will never disappoint. They have never made a bad song and this EP proves that. This song in particular has a summer vibe to it. It reminds me of sitting near the ocean and staring into the waves. You can picture yourself sitting out on a sunny day and just enjoying life. This song has a nostalgic feel to it. Daniel’s soft voice mixed in with the instrumentals of the drums and bass brings this track together. He ended the song perfectly with his low voice and
‘Stargazing’ the second track starts off with more of a melodic rock. You can feel a shift in energy with this song. It feels more like a song that is dedicated to a lover or someone you have feelings for. It's a sweet but starry song. The instrumentals for this song were insane. You could hear more of the drums and the bass which really ties this whole song together. This song in particular has a 2000’s rock vibe to it.
Cares
The third track being ‘Cares’ was the first track to be released for this EP. Once you listen to this single you can see how he perfectly captures peace and void. He's conveying something so beautiful. He voices what everyone seems so afraid to talk and think about. This song has a nostalgic yet comforting feel to it. It's one of those songs that you can lean on when you feel like your world is shutting down but that one song you need to put on to feel like it’ll be okay and just breathe.
His low vocals tie so perfectly with the beat of the song. This is one of those songs that make you reminisce about your life. You can picture yourself looking back at old memories, looking through old pictures, and thinking to yourself “I wish I could go back to that time”. It’s a song that feels so joyful yet so lonely. it's so soft-spoken yet so loud when you listen to what he’s saying.
“We never get old. No, honestly, I don’t wanna get older.. So, yes, I’m afraid of dying”. As soon as the song starts you can feel the connection Daniel is trying to make with the listeners. It's something real and relatable where you can feel what the artist is saying and you just feel yourself sinking into the song.
Space Kids
Track four ‘Space kids’ had more of an upbeat vibe to it. This is one of those tracks that you can picture being in a movie for one of those closing scenes. Right off the bat, the melody just catches your full attention. You can easily put this song and automatically just go with the flow of it. The song itself says so much about them as a band. This whole EP is very versatile. His voice meshes seamlessly with the beat, and he has complete control over his vocal tone. Everything flows together so well, from the lyrics to the melody.
Oddities
‘Oddities’ track five had more of a heavy metal vibe. This track reminds me of driving in the middle of the night and letting all your thoughts free. Daniel’s sweet voice and the mixture of the song starting in English then transitioning to Korean brings it together.
Anomalies in the oddity spaces
The final track ‘Anomalies in the’ was such a perfect song to end the EP with. It has such a sweet sound to it. It's one of those songs that you put on and it can automatically put you at ease. The beginning is mainly instrumentals but Daniel’s whispery voice in the background ties it in.
Overall, this EP was truly beautiful. It was such a wave of emotions and all tracks were very well written. This EP is a masterpiece and I can’t wait to see them performing these songs lives.
