“INSA” Marks LIM KIM’s Return With a Story of Reinvention and Self-Reflection

LIM KIM is entering a new era with her latest single “INSA” featuring Bree Runway, giving listeners the first glimpse into her upcoming album Exit to Nowhere, out July 22. The track feels like an introduction to the story she’s about to tell — one that focuses less on perfection and more on the emotions hidden underneath it.
At first listen, “INSA” carries the energy of a dance track, but there’s a much heavier feeling behind it. The song explores the pressure of always appearing confident, composed, and in control while dealing with insecurity and exhaustion privately. It’s that contrast between what people see and what someone is actually feeling that makes the track stand out.
Bree Runway feels like a natural addition to the song because she brings her own perspective to that same idea of performance and identity. LIM KIM shared that she had already been a fan of Bree before working together and felt she was the right person to capture the emotion behind the track. Their collaboration brings together two different artistic backgrounds while still feeling connected through the message of the song.
The title “INSA” comes from the Korean phrase insa haseyo (인사하세요), meaning “say hello” or “greet properly.” The phrase reflects the importance of greetings and social expectations in Korean culture, but LIM KIM uses it to look deeper into the idea of putting on a certain image for others. The song questions what happens when those everyday moments of politeness and confidence don’t match how someone feels internally.
For LIM KIM, the message comes from personal experience. After growing up in the public eye and navigating the expectations that came with being an artist, she reflects on moments where she had to continue showing up even when she felt disconnected. “INSA” becomes a look at that emotional gap between maintaining an appearance and being honest with yourself.
The visualizer, filmed in Italy, begins a larger story connected to Exit to Nowhere. Each track will represent a different chapter of LIM KIM’s journey, exploring themes of uncertainty, change, and finding a stronger sense of self. Rather than simply being a collection of songs, the album seems to be building a story around identity and personal growth.
Since first gaining attention through Togeworl on Superstar K3 in 2011, LIM KIM has never been an artist who stays in one place. From her early pop sound to the experimental direction of projects like GENERASIAN, she has continued to reshape her image and sound while exploring topics connected to identity and culture.
With “INSA,” LIM KIM introduces a more personal side of her upcoming album — one that embraces the messy parts of figuring yourself out while still moving forward.
