Echoes of Emotion: Enrico Returns with Hesitation

By. Alicia Zamora

Enrico, originally from Singapore and now based in Boston, leans into uncertainty on Hesitation, a four-track EP that feels less like a debut statement and more like a quiet confession. Across “honesty,” “mistakes,” “tomorrow,” and “why’s nobody dancing?”, he traces a line through vulnerability, self-reflection, and the unpredictable nature of being human, never forcing resolution, only sitting in the in-between.

The opening track, “honesty,” establishes that tone immediately. Built on stripped-down production, the song gives space for Enrico’s voice to carry the weight. There’s a rawness to it, unpolished in a way that feels intentional, where every lyric lands with clarity. The minimal instrumentation doesn’t just support the song; it steps back, allowing the emotion to lead. It feels less like performance and more like exposure.

On “mistakes,” the palette expands slightly. Soft harmonies layer beneath the melody, adding depth without diluting the intimacy. Here, Enrico confronts regret directly, but not without nuance. The song holds both heaviness and possibility, capturing the strange tension between looking back and trying to move forward. It’s in that balance that his growth as a songwriter becomes clear. He isn’t interested in simplifying emotion, only in articulating it.

“tomorrow” shifts the EP into something warmer, though no less vulnerable. Centered on love and dependence, the track explores what it means to look ahead when certainty feels out of reach. There’s a quiet longing in the way Enrico delivers each line, as if the future he’s imagining is both hopeful and fragile. The melodies soften the edges, but the emotion remains direct, grounded in the idea that connection, however uncertain, shapes everything.

Then comes “why’s nobody dancing?”, a tonal pivot that injects energy without abandoning the EP’s core. It’s brighter, more immediate, built on rhythms that feel designed to pull you in physically as much as emotionally. But beneath the surface, the same questions linger. There’s a curiosity in the way the song challenges social norms, why we hold back, why we hesitate, turning the act of dancing into something symbolic. It’s playful, but purposeful.

Taken as a whole, Hesitation feels cohesive not because the tracks sound the same, but because they share the same emotional language. Enrico moves fluidly between introspection and release, allowing each song to function as its own moment while still contributing to a larger narrative. It’s a project that understands the value of contrast, quiet versus movement, doubt versus hope, and uses it deliberately.

What makes the EP resonate is its honesty. There’s no attempt to over-explain or over-produce the feeling. Instead, Enrico leans into the discomfort of not having answers, inviting listeners to sit there with him. The songwriting is reflective without becoming distant, personal without feeling closed off.

As he experiments with sound and structure, there’s a clear sense of an artist in motion, figuring things out in real time. The production supports that evolution, layering textures where needed but never overwhelming the core of the music. It remains grounded in emotion first.

By the time Hesitation ends, it doesn’t resolve so much as it lingers. And that feels intentional. For Enrico, this isn’t about providing answers, it’s about documenting the process of searching for them.
