P1harmony Is Killin’ It with Their New Comeback
By. Alicia Zamora
P1Harmony is a South Korean group under FNC Entertainment consisting of six members; Keeho, Theo, Jiung, Intak, Soul, and Jongseob. They debuted on October 28, 2020, with their first mini-album “Disharmony: Stand Out”. Before debuting they released a short film under the title “PH1: The Beginning of a New World”, to let everyone know they were coming and they weren't here to play.
This was a highly anticipated drop and a surprising one since the group had just finished touring not too long ago. P1harmony is a group of many talents and man did this album show it.
Track 1: Killin It
Starting with track one “Killin’ It' ': with this first track, P1 Harmony is showing what they're made of. They started it off so strong. This song is killing it on the charts right now and here's why! P1 Harmony has a way of going outside the norms of K-pop. They aren't afraid to explore new genres and use their voices. In the beginning, we hear Intak jump right into it and then it's followed by Keeho's angelic vocals. Then we get the iconic rap by Jongseob once again. When he hit us with the “My root came 2005. To 두 탕 뛰고 난 지금까지, still alive now. I have a star, 것도 six-piece, 빛이 핑 stylish. My vision, ambition, 맹신 난 가진 reason, it's me”. Here we have Jongseob devouring everyone. The way he can easily rap this and it can flow so smoothly is truly outstanding. Overall, this song has become many people’s favorite and is hitting it on the charts. This year is going to be P1Harmony's year.
Track 2: Late Night Calls
Track two “Late Night Calls” this song starts with a lower melody but we instantly get to hear the vocals from Keeho and then it's joined with the harmony of the other members. You can see how perfectly all of their voices go together. This track feels more like an R&B song, it's like one of those songs you can play after having a long day and instantly relax. It sends you into a deep trance. The high notes from members Keeho, Jiung, and Theo for this track shined so brightly in this song. They have such a sweet tone that just immerses the listener in the song.
Track 3: Everybody Clap
Track three “Everybody Clap” this track has such a preppy vibe to it. It gives such a happy and nostalgic vibe. It takes me back to a time in my childhood with the lyrics “If you happy and you know it, enjoy with the rhythm, show it (Clap). If you want it, I'll show you, let it show.If you wanna raise your hands, I got ya, follow the rhythm and clap” This part of the chorus in particular just takes you back to when you were a little kid and would sing along with the teacher. This song felt so healing and the chorus was so catchy. You were able to hear how perfectly their voices blended in with each other.
Track 4: Love Story
Track four “Love Story”: this was such a beautiful song. You can see how well crafted it was and how much they poured into it. When you listen to it you can feel a sense of loneliness in the beginning with the melody sounding delicate and heartfelt. This is one of those tracks where you can see how P1Harmony explores every genre. This song felt so melancholic yet so beautiful at the same time. It wasn’t one of those songs where it puts you in a gloomy mood but one of those songs where you can feel a bit of a sting because of how beautiful and comforting it is.
Track 5: Countdown To Love
Track five “Countdown To Love”: this track has such a distinct vibe to it. It starts with a pop and electro combination. It makes you feel like you are about to have the time of your life. It gives such a pop Disney vibe to it with a mix of pop and synth. It's one of those songs that can easily have you jumping up and down. When they start with the “Sing all night long, gotta be ready to go Counting, five, four, three, two, one, we're going up”.I can already imagine the crowd going crazy if they were to perform this song live. Once again the rap line is killing it with these verses. The way each member carries each other so beautifully. This has such a catchy vibe to it that it’ll for sure be on repeat.
Track 6: Emergency
Track six “Emergency” this song starts with such an upbeat beat. It's one of those songs you put on when you need a serotonin booster. Moving onto the bridge, Keeho will always show how powerful his voice is and how he can perfect high notes. He really could out-sing the industry if he wanted to. The way he can easily hit that high note like nothing. This has to be such a vocally beautiful song.
Track 7: 2NITe
Track seven “2Nite” this song gives off such a summery vibe. The beginning sounds so tropical and we get to hear Jiung start it with such a mellow voice we then have Intak going in and everyone else joins after that. Again with this track, you can hear more of how they experiment with different beats and genres. This album shows how they can easily adjust to any type of genre. In particular, this song also has more of a robotic sound to it. Compared to other tracks it's more funky and upbeat.
Track 8: Let Me Love You
Track eight “Let Me Love You” the way Jongseob started off this track was impeccable. Every time he raps he proves to everyone that he was truly meant to do what he does. The rappers did what they had to do for this track. Jongseob being the youngest and the one who was in the music industry the longest compared to other members shows how he shines and was meant to be an artist. In every bar that he was rapping his flow, his breathing control, and his rhythm were beyond me. This track showed how unique Jongseob and Intak’s flow is and how they can smoothly blend in with the other's singing parts.
Track 9: Street Star
Track nine “Street Star”: this is where you feel more of a shift in the energy of the album. This song in particular can make you feel all the energy bursting with the beat. In this song, you can hear all the members and how they each have their distinct voices, it's more reachable in this track. You can see how each member has a distinct way of showing off their abilities.
Track 10: I See You
Track Ten “I See U”: what a way to end the album. For this last track, we were once again hit with a classic R&B sound. The way this song is so gentle and sweet ties the album in. The listeners are transported into what feels to be a peaceful and carefree warmth. The member's smooth vocals and the low beat that flows through make it feel like you're sitting in the park and letting the breeze hit you.
Plus Everything
Although we all wish Soul could have had more lines in every song. P1harmony knows how to do it when it comes to making a comeback. Overall, this album was beyond great how they played with the beats and sounds for this track made each song unique. It was filled with pop-sound and all-around heavy instrumentals. I can’t wait to see what else they have for us in the future! Go give “Killin’ It” a listen.
