JUN0 on Growth, Risk-Taking, and Shaping His Sound Beyond Boundaries

By. Alicia Zamora

In this candid conversation for Alicia’s Studio, rising artist JUN0 reflects on his path from military service in Korea to pursuing music in Seoul, his evolving sound, and the mindset guiding his upcoming debut EP. What emerges is an artist still early in his journey—but already deeply intentional about how he builds it.

JUN0’s entry into music didn’t come from a single defining moment, but rather a gradual pull toward something he couldn’t ignore. What began as a hobby during a transitional period in his life slowly became a direction he committed to more seriously after his discharge from the military. Moving to Seoul marked that shift from curiosity to intention—a decision to pursue music not just casually, but as a path forward.

Even now, he speaks about that transition with a sense of humility rather than certainty. There’s no dramatic turning point he points to—just a growing understanding that music was something he wanted to keep building.

U&I and the Ease of Collaboration

When discussing U&I, JUN0 describes the collaboration with Aiden as a naturally smooth experience, rooted in shared taste rather than compromise.

“We both enjoyed listening to the genre of pop,” he explains, noting that this overlap helped the process feel effortless. Instead of forcing direction, the track developed through alignment—two artists working from a similar emotional and sonic space.

The song itself centers on love expressed in different ways, shaped by each artist’s personality. Rather than overcomplicating the concept, JUN0 frames it as a reflection of contrast within connection—how two people can interpret the same feeling differently, yet still land in the same emotional place.

A defining part of JUN0’s songwriting process is his reliance on imagination. While personal experience plays a role, he is more drawn to constructing characters and emotional scenarios that exist slightly outside of his lived reality.

“I usually get inspiration by creating characters and situations by imagining them,” he shares. This approach gives him flexibility—allowing him to step into different emotional perspectives rather than being confined to one narrative voice.

That sense of distance also shows up in his workflow. He describes a preference for working alone, where he can fully focus without external interruption. Once a track arrives, he builds around its atmosphere—letting melody and theme emerge together rather than forcing structure too early.

As JUN0 looks ahead, one theme becomes increasingly clear: movement away from limitation.

Rather than staying within the sound he is already known for, he’s actively pushing into unfamiliar territory. “Now I’m taking risks for my musical growth,” he says, framing experimentation not as a reinvention, but as expansion.

That willingness to challenge his own instincts reflects a broader shift in mindset. Instead of trying to perfect a single identity, he’s more focused on range—on showing listeners different sides of what he can do, even if it feels unfamiliar at first.

It’s a process he acknowledges is still unfolding, not yet resolved.

The Reality of Early-Stage Ambition

When asked about accomplishments, JUN0 is direct in his response: he doesn’t feel he has reached a defining milestone yet. Instead, he situates himself at the beginning of a longer trajectory—one where recognition is still ahead rather than behind.

This perspective shapes how he sets goals as well. Rather than immediate scale, he talks about visibility in smaller, more grounded steps—building recognition, performing at festivals, and gradually expanding reach.

There’s ambition in his vision, but it’s paired with patience. He doesn’t rush the framing of success; instead, he treats it as something that will come through accumulation.

At the center of JUN0’s current focus is his upcoming debut EP—a project that represents both continuity and departure. While it will include elements of the sound he’s already developed, it also introduces new genres he hasn’t explored before.

“I’m going to bring a genre that I’ve never tried before to face my fans with more mature music,” he explains, positioning the EP as both a challenge and a statement of growth.

Rather than presenting it as a finished transformation, JUN0 frames it as part of an ongoing process—one that is still developing in real time.

Across the conversation, JUN0 returns consistently to one idea: staying open.

Whether it’s collaboration, genre, or long-term goals, he resists locking himself into fixed expectations. Even his advice to emerging artists reflects this mindset—emphasizing patience, consistency, and maintaining a positive outlook while waiting for opportunity to meet preparation.

As he continues building toward his EP release, JUN0’s direction feels less about defining a final version of himself and more about continuing to explore what his music can become.

For now, he remains in motion—quietly expanding, testing, and learning as he goes.
