A Bit More on Echo Huang
By. Alicia Zamora
Echo Haung is an independent singer and songwriter who was born and raised in China. She came to the States to pursue her dream of becoming an artist. She started with her first release of her debut single “Know You More” which was released in 2019 from then she went on to release “Happier Without Me”. After this, the making of her first EP was in the works. Her first EP was released in 2022 under the title “-The End-”.
Echo then announced a second EP that was under the name “Love Me a Bit More”. She released six new songs under this EP. With this, you get to see a new side to her. You can hear the growth and the journey she has been on. With this EP it’s a lot more vulnerable than her previous work. It’s a lot more relatable and you can feel the sorrows that are in each song. This album feels like a heartbreak album with a mix of a healing journey. Diving into the tracks, let's start with track one.
TRACK 1: LIKE I DID BEFORE
Starting with track one “Like I Did Before” starts with a voice message on her speaking on previous love experience then what sounds like a violin mixed in with a low guitar starts playing in the background. The way she started off the song is what set it off for me. She tells the beginning of her story and then lets her voice take care of the rest. Her voice has such an angelic hint to it. The way she harmonizes and keeps her vocal tone in range. She not only manages to hit every high vocal but she also does an amazing job at hitting every low vocal.
TRACK 2: YOU GOT ME
The second track “You Got Me” gives more of an R&B vibe to it. It has more of a jumpy start compared to the first track. This one has more of a happier tone and more of a groovy vibe to it. But when you listen to what she's saying you can tell that this song is more of a Toxic Love song. Like she's trying to escape her significant other but she keeps finding herself going back to them. The vocals in this song are quite outstanding. This whole EP shows how versatile Echo is. The way she can switch genres through the EP and still manage to make each song unique is amazing.
TRACK 3: STAY FOR THE NIGHT
The third track “Stay For the Night '' had more of a gloomy vibe to it. The piano playing in the background and her starting it off with a low echoey tone pulls it all together. This song reminds me of sitting in the observatory and staring at the stars. This song feels like she's fighting to hang on in her relationship. As if it was a story she needed to tell. You can tell that this track was more of a personal and deeper song. With this track in particular you can feel the heartbreak. You can feel the exhaustion of having to tell your significant other to put effort into the relationship. This song felt like the epitome of one-sided love.
TRACK 4 : ALLOW YOURSELF TO LOVE ME
Moving onto the fourth track “Allow Yourself to Love Me” the instrumentals for this track were so calming. What sounds like a violin mixed in with a bit of her voice telling a message. The intro with her starting with a soft low voice ties the song together. With this track, you can hear more of her singing than in previous tracks. In this track, her singing sounds louder than the actual harmonies and melodies.
TRACK 5: WAIT & SEE
Track five “Wait & See” has more of an R&B vibe to it. The way she can harmonize her voice and make it unique for each track is what makes her such a great artist. Each of these songs has a different story and in each song, her voice is different and distinct. She amazes me whenever I hear her high notes and how well she hits every note. This song feels like it's dedicated to a lover. It’s one of those songs you can play and think about that special someone. In the middle of the song, you hear someone else come in. His voice matches Echo’s voice so well. The both of them together run smoothly with the beat. Both of their voices together really suit each other which made the song sound so soothing and nostalgic.
TRACK 6: A BIT MORE (OUTRO)
The last track, “A Bit More (Outro)” felt more like an apology, not to her significant other but to herself. As if it was an apology she needed. You can sense the emotion in her voice. This track, in particular, is a lot more vulnerable than her previous tracks. You can tell that she’s hurt and that she needs to heal. With this EP you can see that this was a form of letting herself tell her story and let people know through music that heartbreak is real and sometimes it brings out the absolute worst in you.
WAIT & SEE
Overall, with this second EP, you can feel what she's trying to tell through her songs. With all six tracks, each song tells such a beautiful story. The way her voice sounds so angelic on each track and the way she can easily harmonize with the beats and melodies. Echo Huang is up and coming and I can’t wait to see her doing big things and releasing more projects.
